About the advertising material
1. Things to keep in mind about the advertising campaign
(1) Interruption due to asahi.com system maintenance and other factors
In case of the following, compensation for advertisement service will be waived
- Advertisement distribution is halted due to maintenance work on asahi.com related systems during late night hours and/or other time slots.
-Advertisement distribution is cancelled in order to prevent asahi.com services from being interrupted, or in case asahi.com services are interrupted due to an over-access triggered by a major accident or other incidents.
(2) Screening of advertisement material
-All advertisement material and advertisement links (Websites) will undergo screening based on terms of our advertisement policy. Based on the results of the screening process, advertisers may be asked to revise the material and/or links.
-Advertiser must list its name, in principle
-Advertisers are asked to consider user-convenience by allowing the user to return from external ad-link sites to the asahi.com Website by clicking on the “return” button.
Unless the ad-link is provided by a third party ad-server, and the system, by design, disenables the user to return to the asahi.com site, the ad-link must open a separate browser window at a click, and the size must be smaller than the user window.
(3) No pirated advertisements or the following are allowed:
-Advertisements that incorporate elements that invoke PC Operating Systems, application windows, icons, cursers, buttons, and possibly cause the user to click on them by mistake; ads that display search buttons that do not provide search functions.
- Advertisements that copy asahi.com contents including color arrangement and design.
(4) Responsibility for advertisements
The advertiser shall assume full responsibility for any consequential problems caused by the content of the advertisement, and be liable for any damages caused thereof to our company.
2. How to send in application and forward material
Send in your application according to a format recommended by the Japan Internet Advertising Association (JIAA) http://www.jiaa.org/traffic/traffic.html
Attach and forward advertising material to
- Flash advertisement material should be send in in three formats; swf, fla and alternate gif files.
- Change of advertising dates, cancellations after receipt of application is not allowed in principle.
3. Complete advertisement material due date
(1) gif flash files are due by 4:00 p.m., three working days prior to the start of the advertising campaign.
(2) Flash files, tags distributed through third-party ad services, all advertising material needed for screening, are due by 4:00 p.m., four working days prior to the advertisement campaign.
- In case the flash advertisement material does not arrive before the above due date, advertisements may be serviced using alternate gif files.
- Complete advertisement material is material that has passed our company screening and material regulation policy.
4.Advertisement start time and changes to material
(1) Advertisement start, confirmation period and closing of advertisement campaign
- Start of advertisement is at 0:00 a.m. on first day of campaign, or first day of switchover.
- Confirmation of advertisement should be carried out by 12:00 p.m. noon, on the first day of the advertising campaign. (In case the campaign starts on a Saturday, Sunday, or a national holiday, confirmation should take place by noon on the following working day.) In case the advertiser finds fault with the advertisement, compensation will be waived for the duration.
- Closing of advertisement campaign will be at 24:00 p.m. of the final day.
(2) Changes to advertisement material
- It is sometimes possible to specify the start time and/or closing time, within the duration of the advertisement campaign. Contact services for details.
- Real time advertising reports for some of our advertisement displays come from servers based in the U.S., thus display start may differ from Japan time, due to the time difference.
5. Items to be noted regarding advertisement material regulations

(1) Third-party ad servers
Must conform to advertisement specifications and regulations as specified herein.
(2) Audio advertisement
Audio is acceptable, but the default setting for the audio must be off. Distasteful noise including sounds of sirens, natural catastrophes, voices of dangerous animals, may not be used; buttons that allow volume control and on/off switches for the audio must be clearly visible.
(3) Animation visuals (including gif files)
Refrain from displaying any harmful animations as specified in guidelines regarding animated videos provided by the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters in Japan (NAB).
High frequency cut changes, flashing or flickering lights and images involving brightness inversion of high-contrast colors on screen; advertisement that are mostly composed of regular pattern designs such as stripes, whirls or concentric circles are not acceptable.
(4) Flash advertisement material
- In case Flash format advertising material (including material from third-party ad servers) disrupts the asahi.com contents, the advertisement will be displayed using alternate gif imaging formats.
- Even when the advertising material clears all regulations, proper delivery may not be possible depending on user computer configuration, and alternate gif images may be used.
(5) Displaying multiple advertisement material
- It is possible to run up to three different materials, with one link each, as long as the advertisement takes up the same advertisement space within the duration of the advertisement campaign. All material scheduled to be substituted should be forwarded together with the respective ad-links (Websites) before the due date for advertisement material.
(6) Changes during the advertisement campaign
- In case of unforeseeable problems taking place, such as ad-link servers becoming disabled necessitating the material and/or the ad-link to be changed, such requests will be accepted on business days only. Advertiser may not specify date or time when such changes are to be implemented.
