Five new cases of novel coronavirus infections were confirmed in Tokyo on May 31, the first single-digit number in six days, sources said.
The figure compared with 14 reported the previous day.
The last time the number of daily new infections fell below 10 was May 25, when Tokyo confirmed eight cases.
That was the same day the state of emergency over the coronavirus was lifted for Tokyo, Hokkaido and three prefectures neighboring the capital.
A total of 5,231 cases were reported in Tokyo by May 30.
