The highly anticipated live-action feature film adaptation of “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” will hit movie theaters nationwide on Aug. 4.

Jointly produced and distributed by Toho Co. and Warner Bros. Japan LLC, “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable: Chapter 1” is based on the original manga series by Hirohiko Araki. The 117-volume series has sold more than 90 million copies.

Telling the stories of successive members of the Joestar family destined to fight supernatural foes, the epic saga begins with the first arc set in Britain in the late 19th century, titled “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 1--Phantom Blood.”

The live-action movie tells the story from the fourth arc set in Japan, “Diamond Is Unbreakable.”

Principal photography began in October last year in Sitges, Spain, with production currently under way in Japan.

Director Takashi Miike, who has received critical acclaim at film festivals at home and abroad including the Cannes Film Festival, said he was pleased with the shooting in Sitges.
