A novel adaptation of Makoto Shinkai’s mega-hit anime “Your Name.” written by the director himself will be published in 22 countries and regions in Asia, North America and Europe.

Having sold 16.4 million tickets and raking in more than 21.3 billion yen ($187 million) at the Japanese box office by the end of 2016 after it opened on Aug. 26, the anime became the most successful film released in Japan last year.

The novel version, which was published on June 18 prior to the film’s release, was also the top-selling “bunko” paperback novel last year. The novel and other related publications were also released in Thailand, Taiwan and Malaysia, selling a total of 3.2 million copies worldwide.

The initial print run of the “Your Name.” novel sold out immediately after its release in Thailand, leading to more print runs.

In Taiwan, 40,000 copies of the first print run were published, which is unusual for translated novels in the region.

The novel will also be released in 19 additional countries and regions including South Korea, Hong Kong, Macao, China, the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, Vatican City, San Marino, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Austria, Singapore and Vietnam.

The other tie-in books of “Your Name.” include a spin-off novel, a comic book adaptation and an official guide book.
