An anime sequel, a live musical adaptation and a video game crossover are among treats awaiting fans of the “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon” franchise as it marks its 25th anniversary.

Based on an original manga series of the same name, the first animated TV series adaptation aired from 1992 to 1997 and then spawned feature film adaptations.

According to a special website, a sequel to “Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Crystal” is in the pipeline. The web-based anime series made its online debut in 2014.

Details of the new series have yet to emerge. However, a new live musical adaptation will open in the fall.

In addition, long-awaited Blu-ray editions of the classic 1990s anime series will be released for the first time.

In a unique collaboration, major cosmetics maker Shiseido Co. will offer “Sailor Moon”-themed beauty items, while special weapons and background artwork will be available for download for Capcom Co.’s upcoming “Monster Hunter XX” (“Double Cross”) video game for the Nintendo 3DS. Casual wear brand GU will also release collaborative items, with department store operator Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. set to host a special event at its outlets in Tokyo, Nagoya and Fukuoka.
