Actor Takumi Saito will serve as “storyteller” for film director Noboru Iguchi’s original horror short anime series that will premiere on April 2, TV Tokyo Corp. has announced.

The midnight omnibus series, titled “Sekai no Yami Zukan” (Visual reference book on the world’s darkness), will focus on UFOs, cryptids, curses, ancient civilizations, supernatural powers, spiritual experiences, mysterious incidents, different dimensions and urban myths.

Episodes will be presented in a style of a picture card show, with images evocative of the retro and ominous vibes from occult and ghost stories published for children in the mid-1960s through the mid-1970s.

“In this world, there are doors that should never be opened, and ‘Sekai no Yami Zukan’ may indeed be one of them,” Saito was quoted as saying.

Iguchi is known for many cult films, including “The Machine Girl” and “Gothic Lolita Battle Bear.”

Oolongta Yoshida is writing the scripts for the series, with Yu Ebihara and other leading illustrators providing the art. Each episode will be handled by Kazufumi Nakahira and other up-and-coming creators.
