Makoto Shinkai’s teenage body-swap romance anime “Your Name.” scooped up the Grand Prize award in the Animation Division at the 20th Japan Media Arts Festival, officials announced.

Hosted by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the festival recognizes works of excellence in the three other divisions: art, entertainment and manga. The 20th edition received a total of 4,034 entries from a record 88 countries and regions around the world.

“Shin Godzilla” won the top award in the Entertainment Division. The first Japan-made Godzilla movie in 12 years, it was written by “Evangelion” anime creator Hideaki Anno, who also served as general director, with Shinji Higuchi attached as co-director and VFX director.

The Grand Prize award in the Art Division went to German artist Ralf Baecker’s “Interface I,” a kinetic installation consisting vertical strings connected to 192 DC motors.

Shinichi Ishizuka’s “Blue Giant,” about a young man named Dai Miyamoto aspiring to be a professional jazz musician, was the big winner in the Manga Division.

The award-winning works will be put on display at two venues in Tokyo in September.
