Toyota Motor Corp. will release the first fully remodeled Lexus LS in 11 years, featuring what the automaker describes as “world first” safety technologies.

The new luxury sedan, the high-end model of Toyota’s Lexus vehicles, was shown for the first time in Japan on June 26 and is expected to be marketed this autumn. The price has not been determined.

The latest Lexus LS features an underslung, streamlined design and appears similar to a coupe.

But Toyota is also emphasizing the safety features.

The newest Lexus LS model is equipped with an automatic braking system that can detect pedestrians behind the vehicle during parking. The system also automatically operates the brake and steering wheel to prevent collisions with pedestrians or other obstacles in front of the vehicle.

Another system issues warnings when other cars are approaching from the right or left sides at intersections.

The new Lexus LS will also be Toyota’s first car with a feature to automatically change lanes when the blinker is turned on on expressways.
