Mao Nanami’s popular manga series “Real Girl” will be adapted into a live-action feature film set for release in 2018 from Warner Bros. Japan LLC, with model and actress Ayami Nakajo playing the lead role.

Currently serialized in Kodansha Ltd.’s monthly Dessert comic anthology, the romantic comedy series has sold more than 1 million copies including digital downloads.

Nakajo will play high school girl Iroha Igarashi, a showy, sassy, beautiful man-eater. Hikari Tsutsui, aka “Tsuttsun,” an “otaku” geek boy content with watching anime and playing video games, will be played by actor Hayato Sano.

The story revolves around the unlikely relationship between the two.

The film will be directed by Tsutomu Hanabusa, whose previous works include “No Longer Heroine” and “Tori Girl!”
