Mazinger Z is finally revealed in the latest trailer for a movie in which the super robot makes its return for the first time in 45 years.

Officially titled “Mazinger Z/ Infinity,” the animated film will hit theaters in Japan on Jan. 13, 2018.

Based on Go Nagai’s original comic series, the new movie is being produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his manga career.

The title is known as the pioneer of the super robot genre featuring a gigantic robot controlled by a pilot from within a cockpit. Many characteristics of the genre, such as super weapons, the detailed portrayal of the robot’s launch sequence and the combination sequence of multiple machines, were all introduced in “Mazinger Z.”

The initial anime TV series took Japan by storm after it premiered in 1972.

Set 10 years after the original TV series, “Mazinger Z/ Infinity” will also be shown in France and Italy.

The trailer features the super robot taking down the army of mechanical beasts with its signature attacks such as rocket-propelled fists and the Breast Fire energy blast. While the clip shows familiar faces from the original TV anime including the Mazinger Z pilot, Koji Kabuto, it also introduces a new character named Lisa, who utters a mysterious word, “Goragon.”
