The “Muses of Japanese Cinema” walked the red carpet at the opening ceremony for the Tokyo International Film Festival 2017.

The selected “muses” were Sakura Ando, Yu Aoi, Hikari Mitsushima and Aoi Miyazaki, who featured in films included in the Japan Now section, which summarizes the year in the Japanese film industry.

The opening ceremony was held Oct. 25 at the festival’s main venue, the Roppongi Hills complex in Tokyo’s Minato Ward.

Takahisa Zeze’s “The Lowlife” and Akiko Ooku’s “Tremble All You Want” are the Japanese films included in the Competition section.

Fifteen films from Asia and Europe compete for the Grand Prize, which, with many other awards, will be announced on Nov. 3, the last day of the festival.
