The globally popular “Sword Art Online” anime series will spawn two new TV shows based on story arcs from the original light novel series.

News of the two shows, titled “Sword Art Online: Alicization” and “Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online,” was announced at a stage event during the Dengeki Bunko light novel imprint’s fall festival on Oct. 1.

The anime franchise is based on the fantasy light novel series of the same name by Reki Kawahara.

The first season of the animated TV series aired in 2012, followed by the second season in 2014.

The first animated feature film adaptation hit cinemas in February this year, raking in 2.5 billion yen ($22 million) at the Japanese box office and drawing more than 1.77 million fans.

The “Alicization” arc is a follow-up to “Sword Art Online II.” It will feature series regulars Kirito and Asuna, as well as introduce new characters.

It was also revealed that an illustrator named abec, who provided works for the original light novel series, will draw a new visual.

The “Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online” is a spin-off created by “Kino’s Journey” author Keiichi Sigusawa. The original light novel series’ illustrator, Kohaku Kuroboshi, provided a visual for the latest anime project, with specific details paid to the characters and guns.
