OSAKA--Universal Studios Japan is banking on the old adage "everyone loves a parade" in preparing to launch a high-tech updated version in 2018 showcasing characters from its most popular films.

A USJ Co. official said on Oct. 30 that the theme park, located in the city's Konohana Ward, hopes to become a major evening draw with the "Universal Spectacle Night Parade" through an investment of more than 7 billion yen ($61.86 million), more than double that for the park's existing parades.

The characters of hit films “Harry Potter,” “Minions,” “Jurassic World” and “Transformers” will come together to be re-created in the parade.

USJ said that visitors can be completely enveloped and fully immersed in the entertainment world with its centerpiece of portable stages and images reflected on surrounding buildings through projection mapping.
