FUKAYA, Saitama Prefecture--The skeletal remains of three people wrapped in blue tarps were found in a garden at an unkempt wooden house here, police said.

Saitama prefectural police plan to question a man in his 50s who rented the one-story house. He had not been heard from since January, but police have determined his location, sources said Feb. 6.

While tending the garden, the 81-year-old landlord of the home found part of a skull and other bones in a blue tarp around 10 a.m. on Feb. 4.

At 9:10 a.m. the following day, the landlord called the police, who found the other two bodies, along with clothes, wrapped in tarps and also located in the corner of the garden.

Investigative sources said they believe the bodies are of adult males, but they have no clues so far on the identities or ages, or on the cause of death.

The landlord’s wife said she last saw the renter of the house around Jan. 8.

Police are treating the incident as a case of abandoning bodies.

“It’s rather frightening that dead bodies have been discovered in a residential area such as this,” said a 65-year-old man who lives near the wooden home.

The site is located about 1.2 kilometers from Fukaya Station on the JR Takasaki Line.
