Toyota Motor Corp. is going full throttle into the luxury speedboat market after dipping its toes in the water last year with its Lexus-brand concept model.

The commercial model, based on the Lexus Sport Yacht concept, is slated to cruise into the U.S. market in late 2019 and the Japanese market in spring 2020.

While the prototype was 12.7 meters long and fitted eight passengers, the new model will be around 20 meters long and accommodate 15 passengers. The high-end vessel will boast several rooms and Internet connection.

“We made the boat’s styling into something that nobody has ever seen. This is an integration of the most advanced automobile and boat technologies,” said Shigeki Tomoyama, Toyota’s executive vice president, as he announced the project on March 8.

Toyota received a special award from Japan's Boat of the Year committee for the Lexus Sport Yacht concept at the Japan International Boat Show in Yokohama, also that day.

U.S.-based Marquis-Larson Boat Group will be in charge of production. The retail price has not been announced.
