NAGANO--Two-time Olympic gold medalist Yuzuru Hanyu performed four jumps at an ice show here June 9, showing that the beloved figure skater is smoothly recovering from an injured right ankle.

The event was held in the Big Hat skating arena to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Nagano Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

At the beginning of his performance, Hanyu performed a triple loop jump but faltered a bit on the landing. However, to the delight of his fans, he successfully landed his subsequent jumps: a triple axel, single loop and triple salchow.

Hanyu’s performance was based on his skating program titled, “Hope & Legacy,” whose songs were composed by Jo Hisaishi from Nagano Prefecture.

The tunes include the theme song of the Nagano Paralympics.

Hanyu had used the same program when he set a world record in the free skate at the 2017 World Figure Skating Championships.

He injured his right ankle in November during training for the NHK Trophy.

However, he still won the gold medal at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in February, four years after he claimed gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
