Actress Masami Nagasawa will star as the protagonist’s mother in a live-action feature film adaptation of the supernatural adventure manga series “Bleach,” which will hit movie theaters nationwide on July 20.

The story revolves around Ichigo Kurosaki, a high school student thrown into battles against soul-devouring evil spirits known as “Hollows” to protect his family and friends.

Sota Fukushi will play the role of Ichigo, who obtains the Soul Reaper powers from another Soul Reaper, Rukia Kuchiki, played by Hana Sugisaki.

Nagasawa’s character, Masaki, died while trying to save Ichigo from a Hollow when he was small, leaving him tormented by remorse for his failure to protect his mother.

After the tragedy, Ichigo has been raised by his single father, Isshin, played by Yosuke Eguchi.

Kisuke Urahara, an odd-looking shop owner who helps Soul Reapers fight Hollows, is portrayed by Seiichi Tanabe.

Ichigo’s classmates Orihime Inoue, a girl who has a free-spirited personality, and Yasutora “Chad” Sado, a tough guy who speaks little and looks blank, will be played by Erina Mano and Yu Koyanagi, respectively.

The original manga series is one of the most popular titles running in the Weekly Shonen Jump comic anthology, boasting 120 million copies in circulation worldwide.
