OSAKA--Osaka's famed Midosuji boulevard was transformed into a glittering, twinkling “river of lights” on Nov. 4 as part of an annual illumination that runs through New Year's Eve.

The 4-kilometer route, which stretches from JR Osaka Station to Nankai Electric Railway Co.’s Nanba Station, was adorned with about 1.3 million light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs.

Couples and families stopped periodically to take selfies against the backdrop of stunning illuminations.

Popular male musical duo Kobukuro took part in the lighting ceremony that kicked off around 5:20 p.m.

Osaka's most famous thoroughfare burst into a blaze of color as the countdown ended with, “Three, two, one, zero!”

The street will be illuminated between around 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. through Dec. 31.

Shows of moving lights can also be seen at a section between the Yodoyabashi and Shinbashi intersections in Osaka’s Chuo Ward.
