AnimeJapan, the event of the year for fans of Japanese anime, promises to be bigger and better when its sixth convention is held at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward from March 23 to 26.

Themed on “rock,” it will feature a more spacious area for exhibition booths. The convention will be open to the public on the first two days, with the last two days limited to industry professionals and business attendees.

A focus of AnimeJapan 2019 is to have more booths set up not only by anime studios, production houses and publishers but also by music firms, hobby companies, local governments and schools.

The 2018 edition, held March 22-25 at its regular venue, drew a record 152,331 visitors. That year, 241 companies and organizations operated their own exhibition booths.

Buyers from about 30 countries and regions also joined the event.

The 2019 installment will add another AJ Stage for a total of four for live events. Unlike past events, the business portion will fall in the latter half of the convention to facilitate deals based on announcements and feedback from fans.
