Snow is expected from the evening of Jan. 31 in the Kanto and Koshin regions and is expected to accumulate in some areas, including part of the Kanto Plain, the Japan Meterological Agency said.

However, the chance of snow accumulation in central Tokyo is low at this point, it added.

A low-pressure system accompanied by a front is expected to approach the Izu island chain, likely bringing rain from the evening. The rain is forecast to turn into snow when temperatures drop at night.

During the 24 hours until 6 a.m. on Feb. 1, 3 centimeters of snow is expected to accumulate in the Kanto Plain, and 5 cm in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, Tama, western Tokyo, and Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture.

Meanwhile, 20 cm of snow is forecast in the mountainous areas of the northern Kanto region and 30 cm in the Koshin region, according to the agency.
