Sidelined by an ankle injury, two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu now has his sights set on competing in the world championships to be held in Saitama from March 20.

Japan Skating Federation director Yoshiko Kobayashi said Feb. 20 that Hanyu told her when she got in touch earlier this month: “I started to practice on the rink this year. I am fine-tuning my jumping technique for the World Figure Skating Championships.”

Precisely what types of jumps Hanyu is practicing and the extent of his recovery from the injury are unknown.

Hanyu injured his right ankle by landing badly during an official practice session at the Russian round of the Grand Prix figure skating series last November, forcing him to withdraw from the Grand Prix Final held in December.
