A live-action feature film adaptation of the critically acclaimed “The World of Machida-kun” manga will be released in cinemas in June.

The original manga by Yuki Ando received the Originality Prize, which is given for fresh talent and novel mode of expression, at the 20th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2016.

The film adaptation, which will start showing June 7, is directed by Yuya Ishii, whose previous works include “Sawako Decides,” “The Great Passage” and “The Tokyo Night Sky Is Always the Densest Shade of Blue.”

The manga ran in the Bessatsu Margaret comic anthology from 2015 to 2018. The story centers around an average-looking boy named Machida, who is neither good in sports nor his studies, yet he can't help but assist others in need and inspires people around him.

However, his world is suddenly shaken by an incident one day.
