HIROSHIMA--An amazingly long and mouth-watering baumkuchen cake was created here on March 17 to mark the 100th anniversary of the dessert's arrival from Germany.

Guinness World Records recognized the 20.87-meter long baumkuchen as the world’s longest, topping the existing record by 3.43 meters.

About 150 people lined up to take turns pouring wheat flour dough onto a 36-meter-long iron pipe that was rotated above a charcoal fire, to build the cake's layers.

Participants repeated the procedure 14 times over an hour and a half to complete the cake, which has “growth rings” like a tree on its slightly uneven surface and a roasted taste.

The cake was cut into pieces and distributed to let visitors sample it.
