An animated TV series adaptation of “Vinland Saga” will premiere later this year.

The historical anime is based on the manga of the same name by “Planetes” author Makoto Yukimura, currently running in the Afternoon comic anthology.

The Viking epic centers around Thorfinn, a young warrior who aspires to find a legendary continent known as Vinland.

The first promotional video clip features scenes from the anime show. The second visual shows Thors looking out at the ocean at night, with his small son, Thorfinn, sleeping at his side on a ship.

The series is directed by Shuhei Yabuta, whose previous anime works include “Inuyashiki.” “Banana Fish” chief writer Hiroshi Seko serves as main screenwriter for the series, with “The Saga of Tanya the Evil” scriptwriter Kenta Ihara also joining Seko to write the scripts. Takahiko Abiru, who served as animation supervisor for “Hunter X Hunter,” is attached as character designer.
