The third season of the animated TV series adaptation of “Chihayafuru,” originally slated to premiere in April, will now be shown from October.

“Chihayafuru” is a coming-of-age story about senior high school students who are enthralled by competitive “karuta” card games. The original manga of the same name by Yuki Suetsugu has been running in Kodansha Ltd.’s "Be Love" manga anthology since 2007.

After becoming popular among male and female fans alike, the manga spawned the anime TV series and three live-action feature film adaptations.

The official website for “Chihayafuru 3” announced the delay, but gave no explanation.

The show will premiere in October on Nippon Television Network Corp.’s “AnichU” anime programming block and other channels. It is directed by Morio Asaka and produced by Madhouse Inc.
