An animated feature film adaptation of “Ni no Kuni” will be released this summer in Japan starring actor Kento Yamazaki in the lead role of Yu.

The movie is based on the role-playing video game series of the same name produced by Level-5 Inc., known for other popular series such as “Yo-kai Watch” and “Professor Layton.”

The film's original story centers on high school student Yu, and his best friend, Haru. They find themselves with the ability to travel back and forth between reality and another world called Ni no Kuni after an incident occurs involving their childhood friend Kotona. When a catastrophic threat looms in both worlds, Yu and Haru are forced to make the “ultimate choice.”

Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino, who wrote the original screenplay, serves as executive producer.

Yoshiyuki Momose, who was responsible for animated sequences in the original video game series, is directing the film. The movie will be distributed by Warner Bros. Japan LLC.
