TAISHI, Hyogo Prefecture--An ice maker here is firing on all cylinders to make sure people stay cool this summer.

Honda Reizo Co. churns out an average of 840 ice blocks a day, each weighing about 100 kilograms, using natural spring water from 100 meters underground.

The ice has a slightly blue hue owing to minerals in the water, creating a sense of coolness.

Once the blocks are made, a machine is used to crush them into small pieces for use in plastic cups, such as for ice coffee, and bags.

The company delivers to about 10,000 clients, including convenience stores, mainly in the Kinki region.
