Acclaimed director Mamoru Oshii, best known for “Ghost in the Shell” and “Mobile Police Patlabor,” is working on a new project set for release in 2020.

The project is solely funded by Ichigo Animation. But other details, including the title and story, have not been revealed.

Oshii will write the screenplay based on the original ideas he has cherished for the past 10 years and serve as chief director. The title is scheduled for broadcast and streaming from spring to early summer next year in Japan.

Oshii made his feature film directorial debut with “Urusei Yatsura: Only You” in 1983. He went on to make “Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer,” “Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence” and “The Sky Crawlers.”

His films are highly regarded by great filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg, Guillermo del Toro and Quentin Tarantino.
