Powerful Typhoon No. 10 is forecast to make landfall in western Japan around Aug. 15 if it remains on its current northward course, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

As of the afternoon of Aug. 11, the typhoon was slowly moving northwest over the Pacific Ocean southwest of the Ogasawara islands, about 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo.

The agency predicted that coastal regions facing the Pacific Ocean in eastern and western Japan will experience very stormy weather at sea from the night of Aug. 12.

The agency has warned that high waves are likely, as well as landslides and flooding due to torrential rain.
