One year before they'll be vying for gold, competitors in equestrian events competed in a test event at the 2020 Summer Olympic venue in Tokyo on Aug. 13.

The eventing competition, one of the three disciplines of equestrian, took place as part of the Ready Steady Tokyo event at the Sea Forest Cross-Country Course in the capital’s Koto Ward. The cross-country portion of the eventing competition was held there.

Sixteen riders from four countries along with 16 horses participated, jumping the bars set up along the course, which demands harmonization between a rider and horse.

The first day of the Ready Steady Tokyo test event was held in the Equestrian Park in Tokyo’s Setagaya Ward on Aug. 12.

In the eventing discipline, participants compete in a combination of three events--dressage, cross-country and jumping--over several days.

Competitors returned to the Equestrian Park, in which jumping skills were put to the test, on Aug. 14.
