KOFU--Wintry weather finally made an appearance atop Mount Fuji, where snow was observed for the first time this season.

The Kofu Local Meteorological Office in the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture said Oct. 22 that snowfall could be seen through cloud cover on the 3,776-meter-high peak.

The observation came 22 days later than in an average year, and 26 days later than last year.

The Kofu office observation center is about 40 kilometers from the mountain.
