■Tokyo, Seoul need to work fast to avert new crisis:
A court in South Korea recently handed down a ruling over a dispute concerning Japanese war reparations that could deliver a huge additional blow to already strained bilateral relations.
The Seoul High Court on July 10 ruled in favor of four South Koreans who are seeking compensation from a Japanese company for forced labor in Japan during World War II. The court ordered Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. to pay 100 million won (9 million yen, or $90,000) to each of the four plaintiffs.
