■Abe seeks Malaysia as an ally as Japan ends first round of TPP talks:
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia--Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his Malaysian counterpart, Najib Razak, agreed to cooperate on protecting their nation’s current agricultural tariffs on the final day of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) free trade agreement talks in Malaysia.
The two leaders met for an hour on the closing day of the 18th round of the TPP talks on July 25 in Putrajaya, near the Malaysian capital, where Najib welcomed Japan’s participation in the talks. Japan made its debut as the 12th member of the TPP negotiations on July 23, which were held in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the state of Sabah, on Malaysian Borneo.
