Toyota to start Asian imports

Toyota Motor Corp. said Wednesday that it will, for the first time, start selling Toyota-brand vehicles built elsewhere in Asia in the domestic market.

It said it will import two types of commercial vehicles from Indonesia, the fully redesigned Townace and the Liteace, which come both in trucks and vans.

They will be introduced Feb. 25.

Toyota outsourced production of the 1,500cc vehicles in Indonesia to subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Co., which is producing similar vehicles for the Asian market. (IHT/Asahi: January 10,2008)
