Strong winds Friday resulted in train delays and suspended services in the Tokyo area and a number of flight cancellations at Haneda Airport, where gusts of 82.8 kph were recorded at 9: 10 a.m. Twenty minutes later, this 60-meter crane at the Chiba Works of Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co. in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, toppled over, injuring the 54-year-old operator. The strong winds were a result of a low-pressure system approaching the Kanto region, which weather officials said would bring rainfall of 40 to 60 millimeters per hour at its peak.(IHT/Asahi: April 19,2008)
