Briefly: Man held in radioactive material theft

ICHIHARA, Chiba Prefecture--A 40-year-old man was arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing a device containing a radioactive substance from a company last month, police said.

Tomonori Iso of Yokohama admitted to taking iridium 192 in a triple-layered container stored at Non-Destructive Inspection Co.'s office and dumping the inner part containing the radioactive substance into a river in Yokohama's Kanagawa Ward.

The inner part was safely collected Thursday. Iso works for an affiliate of the company.(IHT/Asahi: May 9,2008)
