¥1,000 coin set to mark G-8 summit

A commemorative 1,000-yen coin will be issued ahead of the Group of Eight summit in July at Lake Toyako in Hokkaido, the Finance Ministry said.

It said 100,000 silver coins will be issued, each costing 6,000 yen.

One side will feature Japanese cranes to symbolize the environment, a key issue on the meeting's agenda. (IHT/Asahi: May 15,2008)
