DoCoMo to sell waterproof phone

NTT DoCoMo Inc. from today will sell waterproof cellphones that can withstand submersion in water for up to half an hour.

The new F706i series of handsets, manufactured by Fujitsu Ltd., will still work even if they are left in 1-meter deep water for that period, company officials said.

DoCoMo's move follows a decision by Softbank Corp. to introduce a second line of waterproof cellphones in summer.(IHT/Asahi: June 20,2008)
