NARITA, Chiba Prefecture--A Chinese human rights activist who has been refused re-entry into his own country entered the 10th day of his sit-in at Narita Airport on Friday.
Feng Zhenghu, 55, has been living in the restricted area outside the immigration gate since Nov. 4, according to airport officials and his supporters. He has been subsiding on biscuits he was carrying and drinking tap water in a bathroom.
His visa to enter Japan is valid until June 2010.
Feng was arrested by authorities in Beijing in February and released on the condition he stay out of the country until after June 4, the 20th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown. He arrived in Japan in April to participate in several gatherings, including a rally to protest the military response to the 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations.
Since June he has tried to return to China eight times, but has been denied entry each time.(IHT/Asahi: November 14,2009)
