NEC begins laying optical fiber cable in sea from Chiba to Singapore

The end of an undersea cable from a vessel reaches the coast of Minami-Boso, Chiba Prefecture, shortly after 8 a.m. on Nov. 19. (Ryo Kato)
Work began on the coast of Chiba Prefecture on Nov. 19 to run a fiber-optic cable on the seabed to Singapore that will expand the communication capability between Japan and Southeast Asia by about 50 percent and help meet an explosion in demand for data.
