Japan's wartime history an issue for the world

After the Cold War, looking back on history from the viewpoint of victims has become a global trend. As a followup to the last report that focused on historical perception from the standpoint of security, the East Asian Security and Regional Cooperation Research Team of The Asahi Shimbun Asia Network (AAN) looks at increasingly active moves in the United States and Asia to probe into Japan’s past acts of aggression. While the Japanese side also suffered heavy war damage and casualties, we believe it is important to shed light on historical facts from a broader perspective that transcends national borders and redress victims whose human rights had been violated.
