Nara suspect collected girls' underwear
The Asahi Shimbun

NARA-Police found a large collection of underwear and swimsuits belonging to young girls and women in the apartment of a 36-year-old man arrested last week in the abduction-murder of a schoolgirl, sources said.

About 100 pairs of women's and girls' underpants, along with a collection of child pornography, were discovered at the home of Kaoru Kobayashi, in Sango, Nara Prefecture.

Some of the items had labels with names different from that of the 7-year-old girl whose body was found Nov. 18 in Heguri, Nara Prefecture.

Kobayashi, a newspaper deliveryman, was arrested Dec. 30 on suspicion of abducting the girl with the intent to molest her. He has admitted he killed the girl, who was drowned, police said.

Police are also investigating his possible involvement in other crimes and believe that he randomly targeted young girls, the sources said.

Police seized about 100 porn videos and about 20 books and magazines, some of them child porn, from the suspect's apartment. They also confiscated scrapbooks filled with pictures of girls cut from magazines.

Previously, police found numerous child porn images downloaded and stored on Kobayashi's cellphone.

He apparently had shown some to an acquaintance and boasted, ``I have more than 100 pictures like this.''

Kobayashi photographed the slain girl using her own cellphone and sent the image to her mother's phone, police said, adding that he sent the image to his own cellphone for his collection.(IHT/Asahi: January 4,2005)
