With Greater Clarity and Speed
The Asahi Shimbun delivers the latest accurate news and information in a colorful format from 24 printing plants nationwide.

To realize higher speed and better quality pages, we are installing across the country the CTP processing system, which enables us to copy page images directly onto printing plates. In addition, we are putting in place equipment that will allow our rotary presses to increase the number of color pages to 16 each.

Already in the Tokyo and Osaka where morning and evening editions are available and in the Nagoya region, we have completed the installation of CTP processing and the system that enables us to put out 40-page newspapers with 16 color pages. Other plants expect to complete installation of the system by the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

In tandem with the CTP system, we have installed the FM Screen, which allows finer and more faithful color reproduction, ahead of others in the industry. The FM Screen has been in practical use in 16 printing plants across the nation, to produce clear full-color advertisements.

Twenty-one of our plants countrywide have obtained ISO14001 environmental certification, and the remaining plants are striving to join them. The Asahi Shimbun is aiming to have its plants become environmentally friendly.

Several projects are underway to adopt a clearer format for The Asahi Shimbun, and to deliver up-to-date news more speedily to homes and offices around the nation.
