Prime Minister Fumio Kishida was confirmed to be infected with the novel coronavirus, the government said Aug. 21.
He tested positive in a PCR test he underwent in the morning after he developed a mild fever and coughing fits the previous night.
He is recuperating in the private quarters of the prime minister’s official residence, according to the government.
