Figure skating star Mao Asada announced plans to open a skating rink bearing her name in Tachikawa, western Tokyo, in autumn 2024.
“It would be helpful for skaters if the facility has restaurants that offer healthy and nutritious food,” Asada said on March 28 about the planned Mao Rink.
She recalled struggling to find time for decent meals when she was training for competitions.
The Vancouver Olympic silver medalist and three-time world champion will work together with a local developer on the project.
While the facility’s main rink will be designed to meet international standards for competitive figure skaters, a sub rink will be open to the general public.
Built on a 9,000-square-meter plot, Mao Rink will also feature a gym, dance studios and restaurants.
