About 120,000 California poppies are unfolding their orange petals, complementing the early summer sunlight at Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture.
“I would love for visitors to enjoy the magnificent orange color of the flowers,” said Mizuki Tano, the park’s public relations official.
The California poppy tends to open its petals toward the direction of the sun.
Its petals close to form distinctive triangle or cylindrical shapes at night or on rainy days.
This year, California poppies at the park bloomed at around their usual time. Their colors will peak on or around June 8.
